About Me

My photo
I'm a wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. I try to be creative - sometimes it works, most times it doesn't. I'm my own worst critic! I'm self taught in a lot of my crafts, but have taken quilting classes and most recently a beginner's rug hooking class. I enjoy both crafts tremendously. I'd like to learn to be a better gardener.

Am I there yet!?!?

I'm getting close to being able to retire.  With any luck I'll retire in September 2013.  However, it's looking more and more like it will be sometime in 2014.  Any hoo, I took last Thursday and Friday (June 28 and 29) and Monday and Tuesday (July 2 & 3) and had Wednesday off.  So a nice little mini staycation.  But!  My daughter had a hysterectomy on Thursday so I spent the entire day at the hospital and Friday she was to be discharged at 11:00.  Well, that didn't happen - she wasn't discharged until 7:00 p.m. that night!  Urgh!  So her husband and I spent most of the day Friday at the hospital.  Saturday hubby and I had lunch at Berardi's in Huron, Ohio, then took the lake route up around Catawba and Marblehead.  We got home around 5:00.  My big plans had been to re-arrange my craft room so I could set up my large rug hooking frame on a stand and put my sunflower penny rug on it with the intentions of pulling a few loops for about 10 minutes as often as I could.  Did it happen?  Nooooo!  Why you ask?  I was just burned out from work!  Aargh!  I did manage to work on my Christmas gifts a little but was so disappointed that I didn't do the things on my "to do" list.   Most of my time off was spent staring at the tv and not necessarily watching tv.  Yesterday was the worst!  It was hot and I was crabby at the aspect of coming back to work.  I want to retire and enjoy life.  I want to retire and not be dragging by the end of the week.  I want to retire and enjoy hooking or stitching or whatever strikes my fancy... Sigh....  ok, huge SIGH....  :)  I want to retire so I can do my walks in the morning so I don't find excuses not to do it like I do when I get home from work.  I am sooooo ready to retire but I just might have to put it off one more year.  So there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

I hope you all (well all that celebrate it) had a wonderful 4th of July!  And for those of you that don't celebrate the 4th of July - I hope you had a great day too!

Thanks for stopping by and listening to me whining.  I will get better about posting and posting pictures....some day - I know - when I retire!  LOL!

  1. I hear your pain with the whole retirement issue! I'm off for the summer, but working full time is so exhausting. Gone are the days when one person could stay home and tend to the "home fires" and one could go to work. Even my husband says he likes having me home for the summer. With me home, weekends don't revolve around grocery shopping and laundry. I hope you see a break soon!!

  2. I TOO WOULD BE HAPPY TO RETIRE BUT WITH RETIREMENT THERE IS LESS PAY. I WOULD BE CONTENT OF NOT HAVING TO WORK 7 DAYS A WEEK AND HAVE A WEEK OF VACATION WITH MY HUSBAND BUT WE CAN'T TAKE TIME OFF TOGETHER. ANYWAY, THEY ALL COMPLAIN THAT LIFE GETS BUSIER AFTER RETIREMENT. I WONDER IF THERE IS TRUTH IN THAT.

I'LL BE 66 THIS FALL AND I STILL DON'T SEE RETIREMENT ON THE HORIZON.

I HOPE THAT YOUR DAUGHTER RECUPERATE FROM HER OPERATION REAL QUICK.

IN THE MEAN TIME MAYBE YOU CAN WORK ON SMALL PROJECTS JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT.

    TAKE CARE.
    HUGS

  3. Thanks Courtney and Julia for "feeling my pain"! LOL! Courtney - I bet it's hard going back to work in the fall after having summers off! It was hard for me to come back after just 7 days off! LOL!

Julia - thanks for the get well wishes for my daughter. Yesterday (Thursday) was a week since her surgery and she said she felt awful. Today she called me and said she didn't feel like she'd ever had surgery so she's on the mend and feeling bored because she isn't allowed to drive or lift anything heavier than 10 pounds, etc.

Yep, with retirement comes less money so I've become a woman obsessed with getting bills paid off, more money in savings and all that good stuff. But it's still going to mean a cut in pay. That's how I justify buying all sorts of wool and patterns and fabric now - I'll have a stash to go through after I retire without even spending money! Yeah, right! I am working on small projects - my Christmas gifts so at least I'm making headway on those and stand to be ahead of the ball this Christmas! Yay!

Thanks both of you for stopping by and chatting with me!
